The Bihar Education Project Council (BEPC) popularly termed as Bihar Education Project (BEP) is established in 1991. The organization has given the task by the government to achieve Universal Elementary Education (UEE) in the state. The organization is responsible for making elementary education stronger by improving education standard in elementary schools. Encouraging school age children to join school and preventing dropouts from school is also the responsibility of this organization. The council has District Offices in 37 districts of Bihar. The main office of the council is located in Patna. At present the Bihar Education Project Council (BEPC) runs the following educational projects -

• Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan (SSA)
• National Programme for Education of Girls at Elementary Level (NPEGEL)
• Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV)
• District Primary Education Programme (D.P.E.P.)
• School Sanitation and Hygiene Education (SSHE)
